Firework Safety Tips

Have fun celebrating our nations heritage this Fourth of July, but don't underestimate the dangers of fireworks. It is always better to play it safe rather than be sorry.

Firework
• Always have water handy. (A hose or bucket).

• Alcohol and fireworks do not mix. Have a "designated shooter."

• Only use fireworks outdoors, this includes garages, sheds & barns

• Only use fireworks as intended. Don't try to alter them or combine them.

Obey local laws. If fireworks are not legal where you live, do not use them.

• Only persons over the age of 12 should be allowed to handle sparklers of any type.

• Try to avoid launching fireworks toward trees, powerlines, buildings, vehicles, etc.

• Never relight a "dud" firework. Wait 20 minutes and then soak it in a bucket of water.

• Spectators should keep a safe distance from the shooter and the shooter should wear safety glasses.

• The shooter should always wear shoes that cover their feet since many fireworks spew flaming metallic sparks that can burn through skin.

Do not ever use homemade fireworks of illegal explosives: They can kill you! Report illegal explosives to the County Fire Marshal or police department in your community.
